About Long Baseline Array

The Long Baseline Array (LBA) consists of six stations in the Australia, one station in the South Africa and one station in the New Zealand. Because the LBA is only VLBI network in southern hemisphere, it plays very important role of VLBI network to observe a southern sky, especially towards central region of our Galaxy. The LBA is also an important ground base VLBI network for a space VLBI.

The LBA is operated by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) since 1997. Although the baseline length in Australia was less than 2,000 km, the LBA has provided us remarkable results so far. Because the LBA is only VLBI network in the southern hemisphere. Now the baseline length of LBA extends up to 6,000 km.

Users in the world can use the LBA to the world. The Australian LBA has *** sessions in every year.
